Sandcastle was once again at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in sunny Las Vegas, Nevada! Lot’s of new equipment and technology was unveiled at NAB this year. Among the most interesting was the Canadian company Andra Motion Focus with their new technology that allows for automated focus pulling. Creative Director of Andra, Mike MacDonald, really impressed Sandcastle with his presentation of their product. We look forward to using this technology in one of our upcoming feature films.

We saw new footage of the Red Dragon sensor which was absolutely breathtaking. We can’t wait to upgrade our Red Epic to a Dragon and look forward to shooting our first feature film, The Trip, with this brand new sensor.

We were also impressed by a new 6 laser projector by Christie. We watched a high frame rate 3D version of the latest Hobbit movie trailer that was stunning!

Other highlights included the new Blackmagic URSA camera, and AJA’s new 4k camera, the CION. Definitely, 4k was everywhere!

It was a very enjoyable NAB this year and we can’t wait to go back to Vegas next year for NAB 2015!
